How to Effectively Utilize Affirmations (Positive Self Statements) to Create a Positive Mindset
Reading my last post you learned how to state Positive Affirmations to get the most impact. There is also a formula for how to use those positive affirmations most effectively.
The formula for utilizing your Positive Affirmations most effectively is:
Choose up to three positive affirmations that are the most important to you.
Instead of using cursive handwriting or typing the affirmations into a computer, handprint each of the three chosen affirmations on either an index card or a Post-It note. Hand printing helps to imprint the brain faster and easier.
You can put all three affirmations on one card or note, or choose to print each out on a separate card or note.A) Put the affirmations by your bedside, either on or in your nightstand.
B) First thing upon awakening and right before going to sleep, read the affirmations out loud.
C) As you read them, engage all five senses to imagine the statements as already being true for you. Imagine it to the point that you can:
o see it clearly,
o sense or feel it,
o hear talking or other appropriate sounds,
o smell the environment, or something delightful like roses
o taste something sweet
so that imprints on your brain to the point you can believe it as already being true.
D) Make a handprinted copy of your Positive Affirmations to carry with you in a notebook, wallet, or purse. Read them often and consistently throughout the day. Set alarms on your phone to remind you to read them at regular intervals. The repetition is what builds mental muscles.
E) Only if you live in a supportive environment, post the affirmations by your bathroom mirror and/or any other location that you see daily, such as the dash of your car.
The imagining and the feeling of these statements as already being true are critical to this process. Getting resistance from your mind or ego, like a little voice saying “That’s not true” is perfectly normal at first. However, the more you imprint or program the new affirmations with feeling, the more your brain accepts them as truth.
By doing the above persistently and consistently you really are creating a new life path in your mind, brain, and body and are on your way to becoming your truest Sage self.
