How to Create Affirmations (Positive Self Statements) to Reprogram your Brain Towards a Positive Mindset

Using Positive Affirmations, also known as Positive Self-Talk, is a powerful tool for changing your thoughts to reprogram your brain for a positive life.

The formula for creating your Positive Affirmations most effectively is:

  • Start your affirmation using the personal pronoun “I.” There is a law in psychology that whatever you attach to the “I am” you become.

  • The + indicates that the affirmation needs to be stated positively. It’s critical to state what you want, rather than what you don’t want. For example, “I am in good health” as opposed to “I am not sick.”

  • The “Now” in the formula equates to stating the affirmation in the present tense. Because you may not have something you want yet, there is a tendency to create an affirmation utilizing the future tense, such as, “I will weigh my ideal weight of 148 pounds,” instead of “I weigh my ideal weight of 148 pounds.” Using the future tense keeps you in a negative mindset because it focuses on what you don’t yet have.

  • Stating it in the present tense creates the vision of your desire as having already been accomplished, and sustains a positive mindset. However, if you feel any doubt arising when you state something in the present tense because it hasn’t yet manifested in the physical world, utilize the phrase, “I am in the process of …” Using this phrase keeps the affirmation in the present tense while making it easier for your mind to accept the statement as true.

  • “Definite” stands for being as specific as possible in order for you to have clarity on your vision or goal. For example, “I am financially successful” doesn’t provide a clear indication of what being financially successful means. Stating “I earn at least $100,000.00 a year” is more comprehensible and gives your mind focus
